What is MAE?
Macintosh Application Environment 3.0 (MAE) is a software implementation
of Apple's Macintosh® that runs on UNIX workstations from Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard. Through the use of 68LC040 emulation and native
extensions, MAE provides the Macintosh System 7.5.3 environment in an X
Window. With MAE, you have the ability to:
- Run thousands of "shrink-wrapped" Macintosh applications
- Manipulate Unix files and execute Unix applications from the Macintosh Desktop
- Implement Filesharing, e-mail, and printing using AppleTalk
- MacTCP
- Support for Macintosh sound-based applications
Best of all, you can get started with MAE right now. Just follow these four easy steps:
- Click The Sun Solutions CD's Install button (above)
- Perform an installation of MAE
- Obtain a 30 day demo key from the MAE web site
- Place the demo key in your MAE installation directory
That's all there is to it! Once you've completed these four steps, you'll be ready to enjoy the power of Macintosh on your Unix workstation!
